This savory French Onion Mushroom Tart is a perfect blend of caramelized onions, earthy mushrooms, and creamy cheese all nestled in a flaky tart crust. It’s an elegant dish that’s as delicious as it is beautiful. Perfect for brunch or a light dinner! 🥂🌿
Ingredients:
1 tart crust (store-bought or homemade)
3 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 pound mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 eggs
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). 🕑🔥
Caramelize Onions: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deeply caramelized, about 30-40 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside. 🍳🧅
Cook Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and garlic. Cook until the mushrooms are golden brown and have released their moisture, about 10 minutes. Stir in the thyme and cook for another minute. Remove from heat. 🍄🌿
Prepare Crust: Roll out the tart crust and fit it into a tart pan. Trim the edges as needed. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork. Blind bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven. 🥧🔪
Assemble Tart: Spread the caramelized onions over the bottom of the tart crust. Top with the cooked mushrooms and garlic. Sprinkle the grated Gruyere cheese evenly over the top. 🧀🍄
Prepare Custard: In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and eggs until well combined. Pour this mixture over the tart filling. 🥄🥚
Bake: Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving. 🍽️🌟
