Salisbury Steak Meatballs with Mushroom Gravy 🍄

Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

1 pound ground beef

1/4 cup bread crumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 egg

1/2 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

For the mushroom gravy:

2 tablespoons olive oil

8 oz mushrooms, sliced

2 cups beef broth

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup water

Instructions:

Make the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, chopped garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.  Form the mixture into 1-inch-diameter meatballs.

Cook the meatballs: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Make the mushroom gravy: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms are tender and brown, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms, stirring constantly, cooking for 1 minute to cook off the raw flour flavor.

Make the gravy: Gradually add the beef broth and water to the skillet, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and allow the mixture to thicken into a rich sauce.

Combine and simmer: Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with the mushroom gravy.  Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and have absorbed the flavors of the sauce.

Season and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Serve the meatballs and sauce over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta for a delicious and satisfying meal.
